Paris Saint-Germain’s supremacy in French football shows no signs of fading. The club is on the verge of securing its 14th Ligue 1 title, needing just a draw away at RC Lens on Wednesday to seal their fifth consecutive league championship. Since the 2012/13 season, when Qatari investment fund Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) took over, PSG has only missed out on two league titles: in 2016/17, when a young Kylian Mbappé helped AS Monaco to glory, and in 2020/21, where they finished one point behind champions LOSC Lille. Over the past 13 years, the Parisian club has lifted 11 league trophies, firmly establishing itself as the benchmark in French football.
Luis Enrique continues to build on this legacy. The Spanish manager, who arrived at Parc des Princes in 2023, is on course to win his third consecutive Ligue 1 title. Under his tenure, PSG has already claimed three French Super Cups, two French Cups, two league titles, one Intercontinental Cup, one UEFA Champions League, and one UEFA Super Cup.

That impressive haul could grow with two more trophies by the end of the season. The rearranged fixture at Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Wednesday 13 May at 21:00 serves as the penultimate matchday of the Ligue 1 campaign, with Lens sitting second in the table.
A 14th Ligue 1 title is within touching distance. Luis Enrique’s side only needs a draw to clinch the league crown. PSG currently leads with 73 points, six ahead of Lens (67 points), with just two games remaining. The goal difference advantage is also heavily in PSG’s favor (+44 compared to Lens’s +29).
“Sunday’s victory (against Brest) did us good,” Luis Enrique said in a press conference. “Tomorrow we play Lens — the two best teams this season. Lens has produced a championship of very high quality. It’s the first time since I’ve been here that a team has given us so many problems. No one expected this at the start of the season. Congratulations to Lens and Pierre Sage; he deserves the Ligue 1 best coach award. What he has done is incredible.”

While PSG is already considered the unofficial champion, they could technically lose the league if they lose both remaining games and Lens wins their two matches. Even then, a draw would force a goal difference tiebreaker, where PSG holds a +15 advantage with only two fixtures left.
“We are playing at one of the best stadiums in France. We are motivated for this match. It’s the best preparation for the Champions League final,” added Luis Enrique.
The UEFA Champions League final is also in PSG’s sights. With the league title practically secured, the Parisian club is focused on the showdown against Arsenal at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest on 30 May at 18:00. “La Orejona” — the European Cup — could be theirs once more. The motivation of another Ligue 1 crown could provide an extra boost before facing Mikel Arteta’s side, who are also fighting for the English Premier League title in a tight race against Manchester City.

After the Champions League final, PSG might add a second consecutive European Cup to their trophy cabinet. The league title is all but wrapped up for Luis Enrique’s men, but the Champions League represents a major challenge against an Arsenal team equally hungry for silverware.
