Barcelona’s La Liga title celebrations took on a symbolic turn when young star Lamine Yamal was spotted waving a Palestinian flag during the team’s open-top bus parade through the city streets on Sunday, following their victory in El Clásico.

This gesture follows Yamal’s previous public stance against anti-Muslim chants. In March, during a Spain friendly against Egypt, a section of fans chanted Islamophobic slogans. The 18-year-old responded on social media: “I am Muslim. I heard the chants at the stadium. I know they were aimed at the rival team and not personally at me, but as a Muslim, it is still disrespectful and intolerable.”
Barcelona secured their 29th La Liga title with a decisive 2-0 win over Real Madrid at Camp Nou. Under coach Hansi Flick, goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres sealed the victory early. This is the club’s third Spanish league title in the last four seasons, underscoring their domestic dominance.

Yamal’s immediate future, however, is clouded by a muscle injury. The Barcelona attacker suffered a biceps femoris strain in his left leg just before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ruling him out of the remainder of the European season. The club has opted for a conservative treatment approach without surgery, with an initial recovery timeline of around five weeks that keeps alive the possibility of his participation in the World Cup. However, the risk of relapse and the need for careful physical conditioning remain major concerns.
